About me.

Olatunde Obajeun, affectionately known as OBA, a dynamic artist hailing from Nigeria whose creative pursuits traverse various mediums, crafting immersive performance experiences. With a penchant for collaboration, Olatunde has seamlessly collaborated with artists both locally and globally.

His artistic journey traces back to the 1990s when he honed his craft as a studio engineer at Lagos's esteemed Lemmy Jackson studio. After further refining his skills in the eastern region of Nigeria, Olatunde returned to Lagos with a mission: to mentor aspiring studio engineers. This vision materialized as he established his own studio, passing on his expertise to the next generation.

Subsequently, Olatunde ventured into the realm of music, forming a four-piece band where he not only showcased his prowess on guitar but also lent his captivating vocals. Yet, his sonic vision continued to evolve, leading him to explore diverse genres such as blues, jazz, afrobeat, highlife, and pop. Driven by a quest for deeper artistic exploration, he delved into performance dynamics, improvisation, active listening, composition, and forging his personal artistic identity.

In 2017, Olatunde's path intersected with Qudus Onikeku, a multifaceted creative whose insights into the creative process propelled Olatunde into the depths of soundscapes. Guided by Onikeku's mentorship and inspired by the book "Sound On Bound," Olatunde's quest for sonic enlightenment gained momentum.

His artistic voyage has traversed continents, gracing prestigious stages and festivals worldwide. From the Nigeria Pavilion at the 57th edition of La Biennale di Venezia in Venice to TED Global in Arusha, Tanzania, and the Nordwind Festival in Berlin/Hamburg, the Institute Francais in Benin Republic, Africologne Festival in Germany, Fari Foni Wati Festival in Bamako Mali, MAPAS in Tenerif Island, Spain. Dance Gathering in Lagos, Afropolis in Barcelona spain, Afropolis in Marseille France, Afropolis in Lyon France, Afroplis in Lagos Nigeria, Taipei Arts Festival in Taipei Taiwan, the Re-incarnation Project, premiered at Centre Pompidou in Paris, France and toured a-crossed various venues in Europe, Canada and the United State of America.

Olatunde and his four-man band stand at the vanguard of a musical revolution, pioneering the genre they've coined "Neo Afro Fusion." This groundbreaking fusion of traditional African rhythms with contemporary elements resonates with audiences worldwide, forging a dynamic and eclectic sound that transcends borders and cultures.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, OBA is the visionary behind Astrophonix, a dynamic platform fostering community and collaboration among artists and enthusiasts worldwide.
